In the wake of the national lock down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Naval Community in Vizag came together in the spirit of solidarity towards the most disadvantaged sections of society. Four NGOs who are looking after the most vulnerable dependants received a care package which was put together with overwhelming contributions from the naval families on 31 March 2020. The naval community came forward in large numbers to ensure that there is maximum possible contribution towards the effort. The care package including around 600 kg provisions, 300 kg rice, chairs for the special children, adult diapers and cash donations of over Rs 60, 000/- were sent across along with lots of love and best wishes from the Naval Families.
Established in 2010, Icha Foundation provides food, clothing and therapy to abandoned children with varying disabilities. The Global Aid Foundation works with the motto of “Ability in Disability” to support those living with physidisabilitiesties as well as economically challenged tribal children. The Desire Society works to support the healthy development and well-being of children living with HIV/AIDS (CLHAs). The children receiving care and support at the ICH are abandoned by their parents, children of sex workers, truck drivers and the children who have been abused or belong to poor socio-economic strata. Sampoorana is primarily a hostel and a home for the physically challenged women who have been abandoned by their families. This is also a vocational centre for the members where they learn making items like stuff toys, paint diyas and make candles, paper n cloth bags.
