Visakhapatnam, February 10. A delegation of journalists from Uttarakhand, under the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Dehradun, visited the historic submarine INS Kursura (S20) — a prominent asset of the Indian Navy — and the TU-142 aircraft museum. In addition, the delegation also toured the Central Tribal University located in Vizianagaram. During the visit, the delegation gained information about the efforts being made for the upliftment of tribal communities in Andhra Pradesh, as well as insights into the glorious history of the Indian Navy.
On Tuesday morning, the delegation of journalists from Uttarakhand visited the historic submarine INS Kursura (S20), which played a crucial role in the 1971 India-Pakistan War. This is the same submarine that remained active in the Bay of Bengal and played a decisive role against the Pakistani Navy during the war.
On this occasion, Honorary Sub Lieutenant (Retired) Anil Karne Chaudhary took the journalists inside the submarine and provided detailed information about its various sections. He explained in detail about the submarine’s operations, strategies, and technical capabilities. During the tour, the journalists saw the torpedo room, command room, crew quarters, and engine room. It is noteworthy that INS Kursura guarded India’s maritime borders for three decades. The submarine was decommissioned in 1999 and established as a museum on Ramakrishna Beach in Visakhapatnam in 2001.
Afterwards, the journalists’ delegation visited the historic TU-142 aircraft museum. During this visit, they received detailed information about the glorious legacy of the Indian Navy and the important role played by the TU-142 aircraft in maritime security. Museum officer Ranjit Singh explained that the TU-142 aircraft was used by the Indian Navy for long-range maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare operations. Due to its excellent technology, long flight endurance, and strategic importance, this aircraft remained a symbol of the Indian Navy’s strength. After being retired in 2017, it was installed as a museum to familiarize the general public and youth with the history of the Navy.
PIB Assistant Director and tour coordinator Sanjeev Sundriyal stated that the purpose of this visit was to acquaint various journalists with the country’s strategic and cultural heritage and to encourage positive dialogue. At the end of the program, the journalists shared their experiences, describing it as knowledge-enhancing and inspiring.
Meanwhile, the journalists’ delegation visited the Central Tribal University in Vizianagaram and received information about the modern and employment-oriented education being provided to students from various tribal communities across Andhra Pradesh and the country. University Vice Chancellor (In-charge) T. Srinivasan presented detailed information about the university through a projector. He also mentioned that the university is working towards establishing a Women Technology Park. University Registrar Jitendra Mohan Mishra stated that students from 8 states are pursuing higher education at this university. On this occasion, the university administration welcomed the delegation and presented them with mementos.
