Waltair Division of East Coast Railway observed the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) 2021 today (10.06.2021). To mark this occasion Wlatair Division organized week long special awareness programmes over the Division.
The International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is a worldwide initiative to improve awareness of level crossing safety. The theme of ILCAD 2021 is “distraction” with the motto, “Distraction kills!”.
As a part of observation, Waltair Division organized rallys, mass counseling programmes, distribution of leaflets on safety precautions and creating awareness among the villagers living along the track. More than 1,25,000 pedestrians, villagers were interacted by the Safety department personnel and Civil Defense personnel. More than 5000 vehicle drivers were counseled at various sections of Waltair Division and 12500 leaflets were distributed among the public. Banners and Posters were displayed at public interface locations like bus stations, Station premises, near Level Crossings etc.
The week-long awareness special drives were concluded today with the observation of International Level Crossing Awareness Day. Speaking on the occasion Divisional Railway Manager Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava appreciated the efforts of the safety and civil defense department for planned organization of awareness drives and successful conduction of the programme. He said that it is the responsibility of every individual to be more vigilant and observe the safety precautions while crossing the railway track and LC gates. No short cuts or lethargy while crossing a railway track which can be fatal to life. Though the Railway is taking elaborate measures to eliminate LC gates by replacing them with Limited Height Subways, it is the responsibility of an individual to be attentive while crossing the track, he added.
The entire programme of awareness drive was carried under guidance of Sr. Divisional Safety Officer Shri NR Sahoo. Addressing the occasion he said, every responsible citizen should abide by the rules and violation of any of the safety rules is a punishable offence under section 160 of Indian Railways Act.
