VISAKHAPATNAM RAILWAY STATION RECEIVES ‘PLATINUM’ GREEN RAILWAY STATION CERTIFICATION
Visakhapatnam Railway Station under East Coast Railway has been awarded the prestigious ‘Green Railway Station Certification’ with the highest rating of Platinum by the Global Green Building Council (GGBC). This recognition highlights the station’s adoption of eco-friendly practices and sustainable concepts aimed at minimizing environmental impact.
Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair, Shri Lalit Bohra, congratulated the dedicated team of officials who contributed to maintaining the station’s clean and green standards, paving the way for this achievement.
The Green Railway Station rating system was developed by the Environment Directorate of Indian Railways in collaboration with the GGBC (Global Green Building Council). The framework emphasizes key national priorities such as water conservation, scientific waste management, energy efficiency, reduced dependency on fossil fuels, minimal use of virgin materials, and the promotion of health and well-being for passengers and staff.
This accomplishment is the result of collective teamwork of all the departments, with the Environment and Housekeeping Management wing of Waltair Division leading the initiative to attain sustainable environment at the station.
