In line with the GoI initiative of Puneet Sagar Abhiyaan, Beach Clean-up Drives were organised by Eastern Naval Command at Yarada Beach and Mangamaripeta at Visakhapatnam on 02 Oct 22. In pursuit of the theme “Swachh Sagar; Surakshit Sagar” over 100 naval personnel including ladies and children collected 80 Kg of non-degradable wastes from Yarada beach for recycling. To mark Gandhi Jayanthi and in pursuance of his famous quote “Health is the real wealth”, the beach clean-up drive commenced with a Health Walk from Dolphin Cove to Yarada Beach which was flagged off by Rear Admiral Manish Sharma, Chief Staff Officer(Operations), ENC and culminated with sports and games followed by an uphill trek.
At Mangamaripeta, ENC and INTACH Visakhapatnam Chapter jointly organised a Beach Cleanup Drive at Mangamaripeta beach as part of the International Geodiversity Day celebrations being observed on 06 Oct every year. Cdr. V. Ramakrishna (Retd.) and R. Appala Naidu along with naval personnel of INS Kalinga and GVMC officials participated in the cleanup drive. 120 personnel cleaned the beach by removing all plastic and non-biodegradable matter and all waste was collected and deposited in GVMC vehicles for recycling and further disposal.
