Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Ambassador of India to US, hosted a reception onboard INS Satpura at San Diego, USA. The reception was held as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. While addressing the gathering consisting of senior leadership of US Navy, Indian diaspora and local dignitaries, the Ambassador pitched for enhanced cooperation across key sectors between India and USA. Mr Carlos Del Toro, Secretary, US Department of Navy, emphasised the shared values between the two democracies and the growing military cooperation led by the Navies in particular. A cultural programme showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage delighted the guests present for the reception.
The visit of INS Satpura to San Diego is historic as this is the first time an Indian Naval Warship has been deployed to the west coast of North America. The Indian Tricolour was hoisted at San Diego on 15 Aug 22 as part of Indian Navy’s deployment of ships across all six inhabited continents to commemorate 75 years of independence. Earlier, INS Satpura conducted a 75 lap ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Run’ at San Diego Naval Base to commemorate the 75 glorious years of India’s Independence and paid homage to 75 stalwarts of India’s freedom movement. The ship also participated in Exercise RIMPAC-22 spanning over six weeks in the Pacific Ocean.
